Cal Mehaffey Memorial Service, Pasadena CA
[Jack says:]
Today I joined with many of my good friends in honoring the life of Cal Mehaffey, one of the most beloved and sought after piano tuners in Los Angeles, tuning for celebrities like Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, Ray Charles, Count Basie, and Diana Krall just to name a few.
For 20 years, Cal tuned the pianos for my “Jazz@Lunch” series in Huntington Beach, just as he did for the world-famous Newport Beach Jazz Party and numerous other high-profile events each year.
Merle Kreibich's Birthday Party, Lighthouse Cafe, Hermosa Beach
[Jack says:]
I spent much of the day with a standing-room-only crowd of some of the Southland’s best musicians, celebrating Merle Kreibich’s birthday and recognizing her for all that she’s done for the local jazz community through the years.
Those who sat in included Rickey Woodard, Carl Freedman, Hugh von Kleist, Mark Isbell, Jon Mayer, Mike Price, Jeff Hamilton, Libbie Jo Snyder, Paul Gormley, Glenn A. Mitchell, Rich Eames, Luther Hughes, and Paul Kreibich.
Thanks to Acel B. Troutman for the large cache of photos he took and made available in his Facebook album for the event, Merle Kreibich Birthday @ Lighthouse, including a few of me: Photos of Jack at Merle’s Birthday.
